Lands of America recently had $246 million in land and rural property for sale in the Mountain State. This represents 46,483 acres of land for sale in the state. The most expensive land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $4 million, while the median price for land for sale in West Virginia was $202,416. The average price of land listed for sale in West Virginia was $285,128. There was 685 acres of sold land in West Virginia recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a seven percent increase in sales activity over the previous month. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $3.9 million. With the Mid-Atlantic's most rugged, untouched mountain terrain, West Virginia is an outdoor sportsman's paradise, where adventures include rock climbing, fishing, whitewater rafting, backpacking and mountain biking and several excellent off-roading trails. West Virginia ranks among the country's smallest states in terms of size, covering an area of 24,231 square miles (16 million acres). Of its total landmass, 24,038 square miles (99 percent) covers land area, while the remaining 192 square miles is made up of water. Approximately 11 percent is considered public land such as national and state parks, national forestland or other federally protected land. Farms were the most common type of land for sale in West Virginia. According to U.S. Census Bureau data, the agricultural sector contributed $344 million to the West Virginia economy, or less than one percent of overall state GDP (placing it 46th among all U.S. states for income generated through farming and agricultural activities). Of West Virginia's 55 counties, Pocahontas County had the most land and acreage for sale.
